The signal peptide is cleaved to yield pro-ET-1, which is cleaved by furin and other convertases at dibasic amino acids to yield Big ET-1. Big ET-1 is cleaved by ET-converting enzymes (ECE) to mature ET-1. ET-1 is degraded by neutral endopeptidases and other enzymes.
