Fitness indices were calculated as basic reproductive rate (R₀) of each population (medians, n = 3) divided by average weekly R₀. Pexiganan-selected cultures are excluded from weeks 3 and 4. Vancomycin and PGML-selected cultures were extinct by the end of week 3. 2-way ANOVA (week x treatment): F = 2.2, df = 14, p<0.01. At the end of week 2, only PGML showed significantly depressed fitness relative to the other populations (Tukey post-hoc comparisons: p_iseganan = 0.03, p_melittin = 0.02, p_pexiganan = 0.0005, p_streptomycin = 0.0003).
