Morphologic comparisons of the retinae and optic nerves from normal eyes, and eyes that received a mild, unilateral, nerve crush combined with intravitreal injection of BDNF at the time of the nerve injury, and either 2 or 4 weeks of BDNF infusion into visual cortex bilaterally. Postcrush survival periods were 2, 4, or 6 weeks in duration. Ganglion cell images represent matched regions of the AC and peripheral retina. The 2-week treatment/survival data are from the study of Weber et al.¹⁵
