Recombinants from 5200 meioses narrowed the genetic interval containing flo to a region spanned by 3 BACs (blue, green and orange lines) and nine genes (red). Fine mapping of the last two flanking recombinants defined a 50kb region (grey) containing a single gene, elys. The nucleotide sequences of elys cDNAs from floti262 and flos871embryos contain a C→T transversion (B) and a T→A transversion (C), respectively; both create a premature stop codon.
