100ng of plasmid DNA was transformed into BL21 cells. Cells were then plated on agar plates containing carbenicillin, the selective antibiotic for the ALKBH2 plasmids. Equal numbers of cells where subject to transformation (5×107 cells) and the total number of successful transformations determined as colonies growing on carbenicillin plates are shown(top panel). For comparison, the bottom panel shows plasmid copy number levels as shown in Fig. 2b.
