Fluorescence images of control and Nile red loaded GNC (Nile-GNC) taken after 15 min and 1 h of treatment in A549 cells (at 40x magnification). For this assay, lung cancer A549 cells (5 × 10⁴) were seeded on 24 well plates and incubated at 37 ± 0.5°C under 5% CO₂ for 24 h. The cells were treated with the Nile red solution or Nile red loaded formulations for 15 min and then treated for an addition of 45 min for a total treatment time of 1 hr. After 15 min, media were removed, and the resulting cells were washed with PBS.
