Acoustic startle and PPI. A, Mice were tested for startle response and habituation over five startle events using 110 dB white noise. Animals from LPS-challenged pregnancies showed reduced startle amplitude (p = 0.002 for treatment effect by two-way ANOVA, n = 19 males, 16 females from 5 pregnancies for saline; 17 males, 22 females from 8 pregnancies for LPS). Mice displayed normal habituation to the startle tone. B, PPI was measured over a range of 68–80 dB prepulses. Offspring from LPS-challenged pregnancies showed no significant change in the percentage PPI (p = 0.29 for treatment effect by two-way ANOVA).
