Skin sections from the study detailed in Figure 1 legend, were stained for macrophages and mast cells as detailed in materials and methods. Representative pictures (A) show F4/80 IHC staining for macrophages, which were quantified (B). Mast cells were identified by toluidine blue staining as shown in representative pictures (C) and quantified (D). Data are presented as mean ± SEM of four animals in NM-exposed groups and three in respective controls. *, p < 0.05 as compared to controls. Red arrows, macrophages in ‘A’ and mast cells in ‘C’.
