The curves of the isometric contraction reveal a broad scattering of the peak values, ranging from 56 to 232%BW. This range is due to different voluntary muscular contraction intensities and depends strongly upon the patient’s motivation and the instructions given by the physiotherapist. When abducting the straight leg in the lateral position, peak loads range only slightly between 130 and 162%BW. This is a result of biomechanical factors such as similar leg lengths, segment masses and lever arms of the gluteal musculature.
