Major components of pHi regulation in glioma cells. Unlike astrocytes, glioma cells rely heavily on HCO3-independent mechanisms to regulate their pHi. The predominant acid extruder is NHE1, a Na+/H+ exchanger. All of these components except for the H+ V-ATPase also contribute to C6 glioma osmotic regulation from the transport of the counter-ion.
