Figure 2. — Relative fitness effects of plasmid pLG2 with or without the presence of PAI in E. faecium (TC3 and TC4_PAI) and E. faecalis (TC5 and TC6_PAI). The difference in fitness between TC3 and TC4_PAI is statistically significant (P ≤ 0.001), consistent with an estimated 9% fitness cost of PAI carriage in E. faecium. There is no statistically significant difference in fitness between TC5 and TC6_PAI (P ≤ 0.3) suggesting a low fitness cost, if any, of PAI carriage in E. faecalis.
