Diversity of biological activities of MSC. MSC have a broad spectrum of biological activities leading to a variety of potential clinical applications. Currently 307 clinical trials are found searching for ‘mesenchymal stem cells’ and 32 for ‘mesenchymal stromal cells’ (http://clinicaltrials.gov; assessed June 2013). Since the exact mode of action has not been revealed yet, the combination of biological activities appears to be advantageous for therapy success.
