The important steps in the proteomics work flow. Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis is the central tool for displaying the proteome. Proteins are separated on the basis of charge in the first dimension and molecular mass in the second. The emerging technology of mass spectrometry-based quantitative proteomics provides a powerful tool to systematically and quantitatively assess quantitative differences in protein profiles of different samples and is become an important component of biomedical and clinical research.
