Figure 2

Changes in histological profiles of the dorsum pedis skin in carrageenan control (a, b), dexamethasone (c, d), LJE 0.1 g kg−1 day−1 (e, f), and LJE 0.3 g kg−1 day−1 (g, h) treated groups. Note that marked increases of skin thicknesses due to edematous changes were detected by carrageenan treatment with increases of inflammatory cell infiltrations. However, these increases of skin thicknesses and inflammatory cell infiltrations were effectively inhibited by treatment with dexamethasone and with two different dosages of LJE 0.1 g kg−1 day−1 and 0.3 g kg−1 day−1, respectively. Arrow indicates total thicknesses measured. Arrow heads showed infiltrated inflammatory cells. All H&E stain; scale bars = 160 μm.
