In panel (d), wild-type retinal endothelial cells were plated alone or with Bim−/− pericytes in the presence or absence of sFlt1 or IgG control (10 μg/mL) and photographed. Panel (e) is the quantitative assessment of the data in panel (d). The data are the mean number of branch points per field (×40) ± SD. These experiments were repeated at least twice with similar results (***P < 0.001; ****P < 0.0001).
