The interplay between neuronal and cancer-cell-derived factors in the generation of neural invasion (NI) in pancreatic cancer (PCa). Research from the past 10 years has revealed a crucial involvement of several neurotrophic factors (e.g., NGF, GDNF, artemin), chemokines (e.g., fractalkine), pro-survival genes (MALT1, TRAF) and cell-surface receptors (CD74, MAG) in the neuro-cancer interactions and NI in PCa.
