A) Second derivative spectra obtained from 1 mm thick BNC sections as water evaporates over time (spectra acquired immediately, after 1 hour, 2 hours, and after lyophilization). More features are observed in the lower frequency regions (attributed to matrix absorbances) as water evaporates. B) A shift to a lower frequency is observed in the NIR absorbance band centered at ~5200 cm−1 as water evaporates over time.
