The viability of the SAOS-2 cells was assessed immediately post-thaw using an Annexin V-FITC/PI kit by flow cytometry. Cells negative for both Annexin V and PI are considered as viable. Cells positive for Annexin V, but not PI were scored as early apoptotic. These data were derived from three replicates. Cells positive for PI were considered to be necrotic. * and † denote significant differences of p < 0.05 from the Me₂SO and the 0.2 M trehalose controls, respectively.
