Simulated turgor pressure difference between leaf and root phloem as a function of tree height with varying parameterization for a case where all phloem unloading occurs in the root (A) and evenly along the stem (B) for pine. “sw = 2 cm” refers to a scenario where maximum sapwood depth was assumed to be 2 cm, and “no hw” refers to a scenario of no heartwood formation, i.e., all of the xylem was assumed to be conducting. “Kp, tot*2,” and “Kp, tot*0.5” refer cases where the absolute phloem conductance has been multiplied by a factor of 2 and 0.5, respectively.
