Effect of IL-1β and glycine treatment on the mRNA expression of the proinflammatory cytokines IL6 (a) and IL8 (b). Confluent cultures of gingival keratinocytes were treated with IL-1β either alone or in combination with glycine to induce inflammatory conditions in vitro. Glycine administration to inflammatory challenged gingival keratinocytes resulted in a decreased proinflammatory cytokine mRNA expression of both IL6 (a) and IL8 (b). Results are presented as means ± SD (n = 10); *P < 0.05 difference between groups following ANOVA analysis.
