Effects of ASC treatment on pancreatic injury. (A) Representative light micrographs of hematoxylin and eosin-stained pancreas sections taken from control rats or diabetic rats 32 weeks after STZ injection. Most pancreas islets were damaged in the diabetic rats. The remaining islets were small, with an abnormal architecture. Original magnification, 100×. (B) Double immunofluorescence staining for insulin (green) and glucagon (red) revealed few insulin-producing cells and aberrant distribution of glucagon-positive cells in the pancreatic islets in diabetic rats.
