Phylogenetic tree of the enzymes 5-alpha reductase Type 1 (srd5a1) and Type 2 (srd5a2) from 25 species ranging from human to plants. The two enzymes represent the primary targets of the pharmaceutical dutasteride. The phylogenetic tree was inferred using the Neighbor-Joining method. Numbers at nodes represent bootstrap values (%, 1000 replicates). The evolutionary distances were computed using the Jones–Thornton–Taylor (JTT) matrix-based method. Amino acid sequences were aligned using MUSCLE¹⁸ and the evolutionary analyses were conducted in MEGA5.¹⁹ The sequences and their accession numbers are detailed in Supporting Information Table S1.
