Overview of experimental design. A, fMRI was used to estimate global measures of network dynamics during task or rest. Example time courses are extracted from the right precentral gyrus (blue) and the left precuneus (green). B, We used a computational model to simulate neural dynamics using dynamic systems framework constrained by structural connectivity. C, We used analysis of the coherence of empirical fMRI data, and the phase output of the computational model to compare the global dynamics of empirical data and the dynamics of a computational model constrained by structural connectivity and activation of specific regions of the brain. The example demonstrates spatial coherence over time of empirical data during the choice reaction time task.
