Effects of 0.5 mmol/L clonidine microinjected into the selected sites of the cNTS on cough reflex responses elicited by mechanical stimulation of the tracheobronchial tree and by the inhalation of 1 mol/L citric acid in one anesthetized spontaneously breathing rabbit. Reduction in cough responses 20 min after bilateral microinjections of clonidine, that is, when the maximum effect occurred. Recovery of cough responses was taken ∼90 min after injections.
