Potential profiles of full cells are shown using Na+-loaded melanin anodes and λ-MnO2 cathodes under discharge rates of -10 μA. Discharges were measured in 1 M Na2SO4 wtih Pt counter and reference electrodes. Specific charge storage capacities based on active anode masses were 16.1 ± 0.8, 12.4 ± 1.2, and 7.9 ± 1.4 mAhg−1 for (A) NatMel-Na, (B) SynMel-Na, and (C) E-SynMel-Na, respectively (n = 5).
