All variables are mutually adjusted for one another and are adjusted for socioeconomic status. Smoking in the last 2 months of pregnancy is included in the model because of its strong association with alcohol and illicit drug use. Maternal age odds ratios are denoted as change per 10 years of mother’s age. Parity is defined as second born or later compared with first born as the reference category.
