HRES-1/Rab4 promotes the formation of LC3⁺ autophagosomes, the accumulation of mitochondria, and their colocalization during autophagy induced by starvation or treatment with rapamycin. LC3⁺ autophagosomes are encircled by HRES-1/Rab4⁺ endosomes. The formation of interconnected mitochondrial tubular networks is enhanced by HRES-1/Rab4^Q72L upon starvation.
