Note. Represented is visual schema of the proposed model underlying early reading abilities in children with ASD. Following the simple view of reading (Gough and Tunmer 1986; Hoover and Gough 1990), early reading abilities are captured by alphabet knowledge (decoding) and understanding of meaning (reading comprehension).
