Variable spatial frequency and variable contrast pattern to demonstrate contrast sensitivity. The pattern contrast of the sinusoidally modulated stripes decreases from lower to upper, whereas spatial frequency increases from right to left. At a typical viewing distance (45–50 cm), the bars of the pattern should appear longest around one-third of the way between the left- and right-hand edges, revealing maximum contrast sensitivity around approximately three cycles per degree.
