Fig. 1.

Comparison of the AtMYB44 amino acid sequence and related MYB transcription factors. Amino acid sequences deduced from AtMYB44 (GenBank accession no. AY519648), AtMYB77 (AY124828), AtMYB73 (AY091267) and AtMYB70 (AY519574) were aligned using the COBALT Multiple Alignment Tool provided by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). Gaps were represented by hyphens to maximize the alignment. Sequences under the lines represent amino acid residues conserved among the Arabidopsis subgroup 22 MYB transcription factors, R2, R3, motif 22.1 and motif 22.2. Tryptophan residues conserved in typical R2R3 MYB transcription factors are indicated by dots. Two lysine and one asparagine residues essential for specific DNA binding are indicated by asterisks. Asparagine-rich sequences found in AtMYB44 and AtMYB77 are indicated by a dotted line.
