Distribution of vaccine antigen in 3.2 wt% Al(OH)3/3.5 wt% trehalose-PLGA-5 wt% diethyl phthalate microspheres (ASM-1) after active self-healing encapsulation of FITC-OVA. Confocal microscopic image of FITC-OVA, which was encapsulated in a self-healing PLGA microsphere. Active self-healing microencapsulation of fluorescein-OVA was performed by incubating 20 mg microspheres (20-63 μm in size) with 0.4 mL of 0.5 mg/mL fluorescein-OVA in 10 mM MOPS buffer (pH 7.4) under mild agitation at 10, 25 and 37 °C respectively for 48, 24, and 30 h.
