The effect of NaSCN on O2 photo-consumption and 1O2 lifetime. (A) Effects of NaSCN on MB and light on O2 photo-consumption. Samples contained 100 μM mHCTPO, 25 μM MB, were in the PBS pH 7.4 and were irradiated with 540–740 nm (70 mW/cm2) light. Open diamonds, MB in PBS/H2O; filled circles, sample in PBS/H2O with 10 mM NaSCN; filled squares, sample in PBS/H2O with 10 mM NaSCN and 5 mM NaN3; open triangles, sample in PBS/H2O with 10 mM NaSCN and 10 mM NaN3; exes, sample in PBS/D2O with 10 mM NaSCN. (B) Kinetics of 1O2 phosphorescence. Sample contained 50 μM MB in D2O without (solid line) and with (dotted line) 10 mM NaSCN and was excited with 532-nm laser pulses. Total acquisition time was 30 s. Inset: the inverse of singlet oxygen lifetime as a function of sodium thiocyanate concentration.
