% deaths refers to proportion of all deaths for row category which were due to the column cause (eg, of the male deaths in epilepsy, 18·8% were from external causes). Adjusted odds ratios (aOR) report odds of mortality in individuals with epilepsy compared with general population controls (matched for age and sex, and adjusted for income, and marital and immigration statuses). Suicide category includes undetermined deaths.
