Pericardial injections of CTB also induced transganglionic transport in sensory fibers. Note black precipitate (arrows) in the commissural subnucleus (A, arrows) and dorsolateral and ventrolateral subnuclei (B, arrows) of the nucleus tractus solitarii; such label mimics that seen after labeling primary afferent fibers innervating baroreceptors and the trachea. Labeling of sensory afferent fibers was also noted in the C₁ spinal segment (C) and medullary dorsal horn (MDH) of the trigeminal sensory complex (D) in laminae I and IV–V (arrows).
