Table 3. Acoustic Findings as a Function of Depression and Remission Classification.

Variable NDEP FR PR DEP
Mean F0 284.1 (58.3) 285.5 (50.9) 285.3 (62.2) 278.2 (55.7)
Mean ΔF0 150.1 (59.3)a 158.7 (56.6)a 123.8 (53.5)b 122.5 (56.4)b
Mean F0 SD 65.0 (23.4)a/b 72.4 (26.6)b 61.5 (24.6)a/b 58.8 (22.7)a/c

Means that do not share a subscript differ significantly from one another (p = .05). NDEP = non-depressed, FR = depression in full remission, PR = depression in partial remission, DEP = current clinical depression. Mean F0 refers to the average pitch across all 3 distinct “gorilla” utterances; mean ΔF0 refers to the average pitch range, a gross measure of change in pitch; mean F0 SD refers to the standard deviation of the pitch in “gorilla” utterances, a measure of the dispersion of F0 in relation to the mean.
