In situ hybridization showing the expression pattern of Miz1 in the developing chicken embryo. Miz1 expression starts during gastrulation at the neural plate at HH5, and its uniform expression continues throughout the neural plate through HH7. Miz1 is expressed more intensely in the dorsal aspect of the neural folds at HH8, from which neural crest cells will arise (HH8′). After neurulation (HH10), Miz1 expression continues in the neural tube, as well as in the migratory neural crest cells (black arrow) that have gone through EMT and emigrated from the tube (HH10′). At HH12, Miz1 expression is intense in the migrating neural crest streams adjacent to rhombomere (R) 4 and R6 (black arrow).
