FIG 7

Nitrogen and phosphate acquisition genes in Prochlorococcus sorted samples from BATS (surface water and water from a depth of 80 m; samples taken in August 2010). Samples for transposon-based library preparations were prepared in duplicate samples, and the error bars represent the standard deviations between the abundances of each gene. The top gray box shows the upper confidence interval, and the bottom gray box shows the low end confidence interval of the gamma distribution into which the samples were fit. The broken line at a frequency of 1 corresponds to the mean of the gamma distribution. Asterisks indicate statistically significant (P < 0.05 by Welch's t test) differences between the same genes across the two different depths (surface and 80 m) presented in the figure.
