Y. enterocolitica infection induces robust early proinflammatory gene expression in the neonatal MLN compared to that in adults. Neonatal and adult wild-type C57BL/6 mice were orogastrically infected with 5 × 108 CFU Y. enterocolitica. RNA was isolated from MLN of individual uninfected and infected neonates (circles) and adults (squares) and evaluated for expression of pro- and anti-inflammatory genes relative to the lowest expressor by real-time RT-PCR. ns, not significant; *, P ≤ 0.05.
