Virus titers in organs of mice following i.n. infection with control and mutant VACV. Groups of BALB/c mice were inoculated i.n. with virus in two independent experiments. (A) The mice were inoculated with 104 PFU and sacrificed on day 7 (n = 3). (B) The mice were inoculated with 105 PFU and sacrificed on day 5 (n = 5). The organs were removed and homogenized, and the virus titers of homogenates were determined by plaque assay on BS-C-1 cells. Statistical significance was determined by Student's t test for panel A and by Mann-Whitney test for panel B.
