The effect of filipin treatment on the induction of defense responses mediated by Eix. A, Tobacco cells were incubated for 30 min with filipin (20 μg mL−1) followed by the addition of 2.5 μg mL−1 Eix. Cells were incubated in the presence of 5-amino salicylic acid (100 µm) for different time points as indicated. Changes in the color of the culture result from a chemical reaction indicating the presence of ROS. Images were quantified using ImageJ software. Each point represents the average ± se of three different experiments. B, Tobacco leaf discs were treated with filipin (20 μg mL−1) prior to the addition of Eix (2.5 μg mL−1). Electrolyte leakage was measured 24 h post Eix application. Values represent average conductivity ± se of three different experiments.
