Inline graphic * The NIAAA recommends daily and weekly alcohol consumption limits for men and women. For men aged 65 years and younger, the NIAAA recommends drinking no more than four alcoholic drinks in a day and no more than 14 drinks in a week. For women of all ages and men older than 65 years, the NIAAA recommends drinking no more than three alcoholic drinks a day and no more than seven drinks in a week.9Based on unweighted sample of n  = 1,083 individuals ≥ 65 years old who drank alcohol, including n = 917 older adults who drank alcohol within the limits and n  = 165 older adults who drank in excess of the limits. ‡ N  = 14,341,531 (85.5 %) of adults ≥ 65 years old who consume alcohol drank within the NIAAA-recommended daily and weekly limits. N  = 2,426,913 (14.5 %) of adults ≥ 65 years old who consume alcohol reported drinking more than the NIAAA-recommended daily or weekly limit.
