HSR-GBM1 cells and HSR-GBM1 cells depleted of their mtDNA to levels of 50%, 20%, 3% and 0.2% of their original mtDNA copy number were transplanted into immunedeficient nude mice and developed as tumors with mtDNA copy number being replenished in vivo.
