In this cartoon of the components described in this paper, proteins required for growth of amoebae on Gram(+) bacteria are boxed in light blue and proteins required for growth on Gram(−) bacteria are boxed in light pink (descriptions of each are provided in the main text and in Table 1). Two components are involved in the biogenesis of lysozomal, secreted, or membrane proteins that may affect more than one protein; N-linked glycosylation (Swp1) is critical for proteins required for growth on Gram(+) bacteria, while some aspect of signal peptide cleavage (Spc3) is critical for proteins required for growth on Gram(−) bacteria.
