* Nearly 1/2 of these tears (21 of 54) were vertical peripheral tears of the posterior 1/3 of the meniscus or tears of the adjacent meniscocapsular junction and represented nine of the 12 medial meniscal tears seen on MR images that were not identified or had improved by the time of surgery.
