Hypothetical model of VRN-D4 role in the wheat leaves. According to this model VRN-D4 activates the VRN1/VRN2/VRN3 positive feedback loop in the leaves, which results in an increase of VRN3 (=TaFT1). The TaFT1 protein is then transported through the phloem to the shoot apical meristem where it induces the meristem-identity genes and the initiation of the reproductive stage
