Vard treatment inhibits DSS-induced colitis in mice. CD-1 mice were either untreated (Ctrl), exposed to 5% DSS (DSS) or treated with Vard and exposed to 5% DSS (DSS+Vard). DSS was removed on day 6 and replaced by water. (a) Disease activity index (DAI); including body weight loss, rectal bleeding and stool consistency, was measured over time. (b and c) On day 10, the colons were harvested and the length and density were measured and presented as percentage of control mice. (d and e) Colons were then processed for histological staining with H&E and subjected to pathological scoring for leukocyte infiltration, crypt loss and edema. Scale bar represents 100 μm. *P<0.05.
