Developmental series of plants from subsection Oenothera under controlled greenhouse conditions. Oe. elata (A,C,E), Oe. biennis (B,D,F). Beginning of early rosette stage, 21 days after germinations (A,B). Bar: 2 cm. Note variation in leaf number and size between the two species. Mature rosettes just before bolting, 42 days after germination (C,D). Bar: 10 cm. Mature plants, 77 days after germination (E,F). Bar: 20 cm. Oe. biennis already starts blooming (F), whereas Oe. elata will flower in approximately 1 week (E).
