Travelers could choose more than one purpose for travel; therefore, the total purposes of travel exceed the number of vaccinated travelers (n=406) and unvaccinated travelers (n=12,603). The denominator is the total number of purposes of travel chosen (n=16,039).
Vaccinated travelers are those who received rabies vaccine at the GTEN consultation; unvaccinated travelers were defined as those without pre-existing immunity who were not vaccinated at the consultation.
VFR indicates travelers participating in GTEN who selected “returning to country of origin of self or family to visit friends and relatives” and were visiting low- or low-middle income countries according to the 2009 World Bank World Development Report (available at http://econ.worldbank.org), as defined previously by the CDC.
