Tissue engineered cartilage. Fetal and adult MSCs stimulated with TGFβ3 and BMP2, alone and in combination, were used to tissue engineer cartilage on polyglycolic acid scaffolds for 35 days. The production of cartilage by tissue engineering was measured as dry weight of the extracellular matrix, the biochemical content of type II and type I collagen by specific ELISAs, and proteoglycan measured as glycosaminoglycan by colorimetric assay (B).
