P. berghei Anka parasitized red blood cells (106) (n = 10) were injected intraperitoneally (i.p.). A, Tempol (20 mg/kg), was started at day 1 or day 4 post infection (p.i.). At day 6 p.i., several parameters were determined including A, clinical score and B, parasitemia (determined by Giemsa-stained smears of tail blood). Serum was collected for determination of C, MCP-1, D, IFN-γ, E, TNF-α, F, IL-2, G, IL-6, and H, IL-10 by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay as described in Materials and Methods. *, P≤0.05 (analysis of variance, Tukey post test). NS, non-significant. Ten mice were analyzed per group.
